Frugal Dining

So I realized something. I picked up an IQF salmon filet, a few pounds of zucchini, and I had a rice side dish in the cabinet.

The salmon was portioned into six pieces each at 4oz. The zucchini is take as much as you want, same with the rice.

The salmon was seasoned with fresh lemon thyme, fresh tarragon, and a nice fish seasoning that included lemon, paprika, and salt. Then into a 425F oven for 15 minutes.

The zucchini was cubed (Just stand on end, slice off the top and bottom, then cut straight down, turn 90 degrees and do it again. Then chop. Mixed that with a heap (2tbsp) of garlic, salt, pepper, and a little olive oil. Just sauteed it in a pan.

Total cost for all of the above was $11.28 – and IQF Salmon is a good deal. Put it this way, if you were to buy it fresh at the counter at $6.99 a pound a 1.5lb filet will cost you $10.49, so you save $3.50.

So all together the above made six servings. So $11.28 divided by 6 is $1.88 per serving. Not bad when you consider an alternative. Suppose I had opted for steak instead of fish. Good steak is about $5 per 8oz. so six servings would be $30!

I can’t believe it, but the fish is a better deal.
