Two Amateur Radio things

First – my FCC license expired back in April and I was fretting about what to do. You see I hold a amateur Extra class license and ragging rights I did the 20WPM code test element 1C.

Well color me surprised to find the call I’ve had since they started the vanity program began – they no longer charge $10 for the privilege. You just electronically file the form 605. Luckily I was in the grace period. In case you’re wondering what call is, I’m KD1S.

The other thing I did yet another handheld radio. This time I got the Anytone AT-D878UV. It is a dual-band analog and DMR radio. For $238 I got the radio, charging kit, programming cable and software and a $50 credit toward classes on BridgeCom. Because I note here in the Metro Atlanta area there’s literal shit ton of DMR radio. Can’t wait – the radio is nice, has bluetooth connectivity, even a GPS module in it. For the price you can’t go wrong.

Customs and Border Protection agents get their asses handed to them.

Oh this is delightful. I mean come on, when I started reading the article I said to myself this has to be a 4th Amendment violation. Sure enough.

Go read it here. The link was on Facebook from the ACLU – non-existent deity bless them. They don’t get thanked enough for their protecting us from constitutional abuses.

One thing – now it’s completely voluntary. I’m waiting for TSA to get their asses handed to them too because the searches and shit, that’s unconstitutional too. I mean come on what part of the 4th did the assholes at TSA not understand. And besides, there are better ways to protect flights. Despite the wishes of the Petulant Man Child in Chief aka the President. I don’t even want to invoke that assholes name.

I commented on the FB post that I’d like to go through and just throw them the finger/bird/.whatever and then comment “In Trappist circles that is known as I am the one in charge. ” I mean it is voluntary right? Because in my book respect goes two ways.

First Week at the new job

So I did my first week. Just getting to know everyone right now. One of the guys is named Turner and he and I have great discussions on various topics.

Of course not a full week but Monday through Wednesday. Have today and tomorrow off.

Finally registered in the security system on Wednesday – hallelujah. Now just waiting for my own laptop.

Notes on Public Transit

So as you may be aware we no longer reside in the northeast. Instead we’re now in the southeast, Atlanta area to be specific.

Now transit systems – I do like MARTA. The buses and subways are clean as all hell. It amazes me then that the shithole that is the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority aka RIPTA can’t get it right. Even the trains – they don’t grind into stations like those on the MBTA.

Plus the bus drivers I get a strong they don’t give a shit read. It’s quite amazing.
