I listen to Amazon Music sometimes and this time the playlist is from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Yeah I grew up with a lot of this stuff. Artists like Edwin Starr, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops (Which in mind is an interesting name.) And more.
While I wax eloquent on 1980’s music I also know music from all eras since the 1940’s. My main genres are Motown, Jazz, R&B, Funk. And you can clearly see or rather hear the evolution of music in a period that spans 70 years.

The Tragedy of Linux Systemd
Ok so I’ve written on this and spoken of this many times. In my opinion systemd changes things sure, but not necessarily for the better.
And Linux supplanted System V Unix which I’m also familiar with. In reality it’s an open source operating system like Windows or MAC-OS.
One item I harp on is simple concept. To get the IP address of a Linux server all you needed to do is ifconfig E.g Interface Configuration. On systemd it’s show ip addr
Which annoys the piss out of me. Plus I know one reason is because writing init scripts could be precarious if you didn’t understand. But alas I have to use it regardless.
It’d be nice if I could have posted this as a comment on youtube but of course it’s so controversial they turn comments off.
Treatise on Toys
So about a month or so ago I got some anal beads. One was the tame version, the other has 1.5″ balls interspersed with smaller ones. The latter has become my favorite. Just lubricate it and away I go. Fun times.
It’s funny when I was younger I had no interest in adult toys. Now of course I’ve embraced the inner freak.
This all started because of a former resident who had’t switched her address on Amazon. A few toys and dildoes were sent here.
Plus I got some Astroglide but honestly i don’t like water based lubricants. Now I’ve got a pound of Boy Butter. Oh much better.
And on cleaning toys – a little anti-bacterial dish soap does the trick.
Rates of twins increasing
Interesting article. The article posits it’s the later age of the moms and the increased use of IVF. I can echo some of this – back when I was in College one professors wife had quads and yes IVF was used. Most of the increase is on the African continent but the same here in the U.S. But in my life I’ve seen more twins and triplets – my Step-mom was a triplet.
But IVF if getting better – now they can implant just one embryo.
The part I find interesting is that IVF is mostly done on older women. People are delaying having children until they can basically afford it.
Just another knock on effect of the shitty economy.
Medicine and 3D printing advances
Apparently the sharp crayons at University of Buffalo have figured out how to 3D print organs 10 to 50 times faster than current art. Just think of how this will change things. Say maybe tissue compatible organs printed in an hour with full vascular structure.
It’s funny I see 3D printers as the future replicators on Star Trek. Think bout it – once we figure out how to just manipulate matter we’ll have them. And were going full speed ahead in that quest. When I think about it I realize a lot of the tech in Star Trek is real now. From voice response to flat panel displays. Phones that are universal communicators now. Even computerized translators are starting to come to the fore.
But think about it, say you’ve got a cirrhotic liver – just print a new one from your own cells. No rejection is possible, Or your kidneys, pancreas, spleen the list is endless. Of course medicine will have to change too. Instead of treatment we are actually coming to a point where we can cure people.
Avantree Audition Headphones
Had to buy a new pair as the right channel snapped off the band on my old ones. I note the new ones have a two year warranty now. Interesting. I registered it on the Avantree web site.
I’ve had three pairs of these bluetooth headphones and of course they keep improving them. I got them in earlier and charged them up. 40 hour time on them was a major selling point for me. I do note though when I run the microwave in the kitchen they do glitch out a little. Which tells me that the Panasonic microwave oven leaks a bit.
Mushroom Soup Again tonight
This time I used unsalted butter to cook the mushrooms, leeks and thyme.

You might have seen a post of mine or on my Flickr site – this can also be used for Mushroom Leek and Chicken Fricassee. Just replace the thyme with tarragon and add some chunks of chicken. . It has a very French flavor to it. Umami galore too from the mushrooms. I use the Brown Baby Bella (Aka Crimini or Cremini). Lots of yummy Umami from those.
This time around I got a loaf of French Bread sliced it and top were coated with butter and garlic powder. Into the toaster oven on toast setting though broil would do the trick too. In any case let them toast until the garlic gained a little color.
Now this time too I used a full pound of mushrooms, two leeks and about 4 to 5 sprigs of fresh thyme. Definitely the way to go that and two quarts of chicken stock.
Reminds me I gotta do Pork Chops with sour cream and dill sauce again, that one uses marjoram, caraway seeds, and whole lot of flavor. I recall one Halloween years ago – I was cooking that very dish and the kid could smell it and asked what it was. I told him Pork Chops with Sour Cream and dill sauce.
I like making things taste good. I was thinking get a huge stock pot, 5 to 10 pounds of mushrooms and 8 or 10 leeks. And a few plastic packs of thyme, Plus enough chicken stock and I got a freezer full of chicken bones. I could can it maybe 16oz. process them and sell them. Hey a lot of big food business got started this way.
And the soup – someone was a little skeptical that it’d be good. Now of course he’s singing the soups accolades since this is now the 2nd time this week I’ve made this. Thinking about a veggie soup next. Or maybe even some Minestrone. Because soup is good in early spring. Plus it got to 70F here in DeKalb County GA today.
The Fun early this morning
About 4AM this morning I was woken. Power went out. And of course it was pitch black inside the home. Then I have texts from Georgia Power – apparently a car whacked a pole and knocked power out. Now the text was only for my address so next I looked out the window and saw no glow from the roadway lights. So then I turned on my flashlight and opened the front door – entire apartment complex was dark.
Next text I got from Georgia power said service restore by 6AM. Sure enough I looked at the lamp next to me the red light was on and the fan was running. Went back to sleep until 8AM.
This got me musing on how fragile electric power is in the United States. If a simple vehicle can knock out power so too a storm etc. That’s why if we do build or buy a place I want solar and wind and a 10 to 20 kilowatt storage system for it. And if there’s natural gas service I’ll put in an external 10kW generator.
Another fun fact the stove and oven — the display had gone dark but I could still set the timer. Well the power off an on again reset it and now the display works. And of course the perpetual Xmas tree was flashing through all its program. Had to shut that off too. Because the modern world runs by and large on electricity.
On Christian Apologists
I’ve been a subscriber to Jimmy Snow on YouTube for awhile. This video with Dominic Syracuse sticks in my craw because the comments are bat shit crazy.
Look the main gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are wildly different in that the writing style and the attribution is questionable. So there’s that.
I’ve long known that God, the Devil all of it is just fevered imaginings, not eye witness accounts. Look at Corinthians, Timothy et all the letters of Paul – prior to his conversion to Christianity he was known as Saul of Tarsus. He experienced a vision of Christ on the road to Damascus as in current day Syria.
Consider too why it took so long for disbelief to manifest. The printing press is a 15th century invention. It was only then we started seeing the Bible in local vernacular. So it has taken mankind roughly six centuries to shake off the yoke of religion. And there’s no going back.
Dinner this evening: Mushoom and Leek soup with Garlic Crostini
This started with me watching a video by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt. He made this in the video and I figured what the hell I’d give it a go with a couple modifications.
You’ll need:
—
—
4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
8oz. Sliced Crimini (Brown) Mushrooms – buy them whole, clean them and slice thinly.
1 Leek – bottom part to light green, make sure you clean it and thinly slice it.
One quart of Chicken Stock
1/2 Cup Heavy Cream.
1 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp dried Thyme
Salt and pepper to taste.
Melt the butter in a pot – then add the mushrooms and leeks. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for approximately 8 minutes. Add the full 1qt. of chicken stock.
Bring to a boil and then lower to simmer. Season to taste. Add the Heavy Cream. Stir.
Now the options make a roux with equal parts butter and flour. Stir some of the soup mixture into the roux. Then add the rouch to the pot to thicken it.
For the Crositini – slice of a good Italian loaf. Butter and a sprinkling of garlic on each and toast them.
Absolutely delicious.
