West Virginia files suit against Catholic Diocese

Well men, women, boys and girls – it’s getting interesting for the old Catholic church. Seems they can’t keep burying the fact that priests in nearly every diocese are abusing kids.

You may have remembered I posted about Cardinal George Pell – now here’s the thing about Cardinals they are the Princes of the church. Seriously. It’s one step from there to being the Pope.

So the Republican Attorney General in West Virginia has filed a civil suit against the local diocese there.

I’m hoping the time is up for the Catholic church. You can see little by little the armor being dinged and instead of remaining resolute, it’s severely denting credibility and ability to attract adherents to the church. Good.

Now let me be clear, I left Catholicism some 30+ years ago. I know the gig was up just through studies. Plus I didn’t respect a clerical collar. I understood the purpose of the uniform and knew that it was for intimidation not to mark a holy man. And what did I go to well atheism. I don’t need to get up early on a Sunday morning and tithe 10 or 15 percent of my income to the men of the church.

Now the AFA is mad at Micky D’s

The AFA those bastions of bigotry are at it again. This time they’re mad because McDonalds has embraced the ‘gay agenda’

McDonald’s CEO: Company will put full resources behind gay agenda

McDonald’s has signed on to a nationwide effort to promote “gay” and “lesbian” business ventures.

Dear ,

According to McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner, McDonald’s will aggressively promote the homosexual agenda. In remarks on McDonald’s Web site concerning the company becoming a member of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), Skinner wrote: “Being a socially responsible organization is a fundamental part of who we are. We have an obligation to use our size and resources to make a difference in the world … and we do.”

The company gave an undisclosed amount of money to the NGLCC in return for being recognized as a major promoter of the homosexual agenda. In return, NGLCC placed Richard Ellis, vice president of communications of McDonald’s USA, on the NGLCC Board of Directors.

Ellis was quoted as saying: “I’m thrilled to join the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce team and ready to get to work. I share the NGLCC’s passion for business growth and development within the LGBT community, and I look forward to playing a role in moving these important initiatives forward.”

McDonald’s refused to comment to World Net Daily on the placement of its executive on the board of the “gay” advocacy organization but did send an e-mail confirming the corporation’s support for the agenda of the homosexual business lobby.

“McDonald’s is indeed a Corporate Partner and Organizational Ally of NGLCC. Our vice president of U.S. communications, Richard Ellis, was recently elected to its board of directors,” said Heidi M. Barker, senior director of media relations for McDonald’s. NGLCC describes itself as promoting the LGBT community first and always, including same sex marriage.

NGLCC gives credit to sponsors such as McDonald’s for its financial and other support that helps in its work. “Through the commitment of our corporate partners, the NGLCC has been able to advance the ideas and causes of the LGBT business community,” the Chamber said.

While I’m not a usual McDonald’s customer I applaud them for working with the NGLCC. I should list my business too.

But the thing that gets me is this whole ‘gay agenda’ thing. The only agenda I have is equality for all. It means no amendments to deny rights to people simply because of who they love, it means keeping your religious opinion to yourself. The churches gave us centuries of absolutist rulers and today those same churches wish to rule us all.

I say no to dogma and doctrine of the churches be they Catholic, Protestant, Jewish or Muslim. They have no place in the modern secular world. Their only function is to divide us

But I say we stand together and fight against those who would make us second class citizens. Move away from the religious into the spiritual, expel hatred from your heart. You don’t need a church, chapel, or what have you. Get closer to your fellow man. Remember, churches only serve to divide us. The have a motive to do so, because without membership they have no money and without money the clerical class doesn’t eat, they’d have to get real jobs.

That’s right, I actually agree with the AFA here. I want to see the Christians shut the fuck up once and for all. They haven’t actually offered a new message in well over 600 or so years. So why don’t they shut up for a while and let us discuss the ridiculousness of their belief in a sky fairy.

Yes, I am a double threat to the likes of the AFA and other fundamentalist asshole groups out there. Why? Because I’m gay and an atheist. I don’t want to hear about their religion, or their alleged persecution. It is my feeling that religion in general isn’t persecuted enough. Religion deserves no respect from me and I’m laying the cards on the table now. I don’t care if your practice Judaism, Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism or any other organized religion. I just wish that you’d keep it to your god damned self. I’m beyond ever being ‘saved’ by a vindictive god.

A Homophobe Strikes

Recently I posted a short entry about the AFA’s insistence that good Christians keep their kids home from school on the National Day of Silence.

When I think about it, that’s exactly what the Christofascisti would prefer. Kids that are ignorant and obedient. Look at the Phelps clan as a microcosm of this type of society.

Recently it may have come to your attention that I approved a comment by a homophobe. I did this to expose the core of belief of the homophobes.

There should be no surprise it’s religion, after all did tell me that I was going to hell. What this particular homophobe doesn’t get is that I’m not going to back down. I’m going to call him what he is, a homophobe and religious hypocrite. Why hypocrite? In the first case it is not his to judge. From John 8:7 – Let he who is without sin shall cast the first stone.

I just bet he’s basing his hatred of gay people on Leviticus. But does he take one moment to read the rest of that book? Of course he didn’t because had he done so he would have found that eating shellfish, sleeping with ones wife while she is unclean, etc. are all abominations in the eyes of his alleged god.

It is my opinion that all the Semitic/Monotheistic religions exist to suppress the rights of people, be they women, gay men and women or the like. In order for the monotheistic religions to exist they must focus on the concept of the other. They must also hate this other, or at least try to convert the other.

This other won’t be converted. I started out as Christian, a Catholic no less. Yes, a papist bastard. However at a rather early age I realized it was all bullshit. I do give some props to the authors of the New Testament books though, with the exception of St. Thomas Aquinas, that homophobic asshole. The basic principle is one of love and harmony, about the many before the one. Over the past century or so the Christians have gotten this so wrong that it isn’t funny. They allowed a few pastors with agendas to infiltrate their ranks and this is what we have as a result.

I do realize that CenturyTel is smack dab in the middle of the bible belt, but won’t he be surprised when he dies and realizes that this is the only chance he gets. Except he won’t realize it. As I like to say, you die, you’re dead, that’s it. You get one chance to get it right, to love thy neighbor as thyself.

While you’re at it, keep your religion to yourself. I don’t want to hear it, nor do I see any value in it.

Yes, I’m one of those godless homosexuals who’d like to see religion driven back into the woodwork.

‘Tis the Season Again

The season when those wingnuts come out with their anti-abortion screed. I guess it’s too cold for these pussies to take to the streets, but then that wasn’t effective anyway. Let’s shame the legislators into making abortion illegal, that’s a much better goal for them.

So I always look at the current photo album on our local rag, The Providence Journal. Today I saw a picture that sums up my feelings on those who are against abortion. They’re so ugly that you wouldn’t want to fuck them anyway. Case in point, this picture:

Abortion Protestors

Notice the fellow holding the Stop Abortion Now sign with that little pout on his face. Would someone please let him know that he looks like Princess Tiny Meat and that his affected pout is so last season.

Then there’s dour Bob to PTM’s right. He doesn’t look all that enthused and I just bet he’s there at the behest of his nagging pseudo-Christian wife. Poor guy probably never gets a moment of peace and he probably looks forward to death since that would put an end to his wife’s nagging bullshit.

To the lower right we have the obligatory breeder with her spawn. Great, another mouth to feed and I notice they didn’t get a shot of daddy in the picture. Why is that?

And to the lower left we have the requisite middle aged women who think their shit doesn’t stink.

I heap my scorn on the guys more than the women because the guys should fucking know better. It is not our right to say who can and cannot have an abortion. And if this country didn’t have such a fucked up attitude about sex maybe there’d be fewer abortions. Who’s to say. But I think the author of Freakonomics made a very good point, the drop in crime rates of the 90’s and on is directly related to the legalization of abortion.

Because time and again, if you force a woman to carry a child to term that doesn’t want the child the state is loathe to step in after the fact. So the child is born into poverty, and poverty breeds crime. It’s that simple.

And here in Rhode Island our governor (Yes, with a little ‘g’ because this asshole doesn’t deserve the honorific capitalization of his title) Don the Asshole CarcieriGovernor Don Carcieri the 1st Asshole of Rhode Island is pushing to move welfare services to faith based initiatives. Ok Don, let me ask you something. Other than spending millions on proselytizing and missionary work exactly what have the churches done to help the poor. Oh some run meal programs, and some act as shelters. But cut welfare down and the churches won’t know what to do with all those people and I’m more than just a bit concerned about using faith based because there’s always that recruitment component.

All in all he’s been a horrible governor. Compared to his predecessor Linc Almond, Carcieri is to the right of Hitler.

So sure Don, cut benefits for the poor and the elderly. Then watch the backlash. It’s good thing you’re only in office for two more years because you’ll obviously go down as Rhode Island’s worst governor.

The Insanity Continues

Now there’s the chairman of the Texas House Appropriations Committee, Warren Chisum who doesn’t quite believe that the earth goes around the sun.

But it gets so much better – the Kos article has a link to the Fixed Earth people. I found their little diatribe against Hubble’s explanation and ruminations on red-shift to be downright amusing.

What I’ve noticed is that the fundamentalists love to take things out of context. Take evolution for example. There are those who are incredulous that we’re related to the apes. This is because they see evolution in a linear context, vs. the fact that evolution is all about branching. Yes, humans, chimps and bonobos have a common ancestor. We’re just branches off that ancestor so technically speaking, humans are third branch of the chimp family. Instead of changing the taxonomic description of chimps, perhaps we should be moving humans from homo to pan.

Next thing you know, the fixed earthers will be flat earthers. The world most definitely is NOT flat. And it most definitely is not magnetically suspended in space while the sun revolves around us. Matter of fact there’s plenty of evidence now amassed that the earth most definitely is spinning around on its axis, which also has precess (Which means right now that the northern hemisphere is in winter, while the southern is in summer). We also know the approximate orbit we make around our home star, the sun.

We know this because people have been observing the sky for quite some time now. Not content to just observe from the earth, we’ve put orbiting satellites up that get past atmospheric distortion, light pollution, etc. to give us a clearer view of the cosmos. And those views are phenomenal.

For instance, slip the slider to 2:45 on the video below. Galaxies – 3,000 of them. In one small part of the 78 billion light year sized universe. And at night we can only see a few thousand stars. Might also want to look at an updated version of the deep field image at 5:25

Do you still believe that the fixed earthers are correct? That Christian and Islamic fundamentalists are correct? If you do, I feel sorry for you because there is so much evidence out there that contradicts religious teachings. You might want to check out the Rational Response Squad.

Our so called holy books regularly feature things in which it is clear that the authors had not one clue. The whole ‘spilling of seed’ thing is just a chauvinistic view that the sperm was the key component, that the egg brought nothing to the party, hence nary a mention of lesbianism in those books.

Then of course there are the prohibitions against pork and shellfish contained in Leviticus. Of course if you don’t cook your food, you’re going to suffer the consequences. They just didn’t know about the pathogens and parasites living in the tissue of pigs, and in the case of shellfish they didn’t like the way they looked so assumed they were bad for you. Ha!

Then of course we have the agenda of folks like St. Thomas Aquinas, or Saul of Tarsus, et al. These were men who were shall we say, interested in keeping the power to themselves. Share the power with the downtrodden or women? Never! These were the original male chauvinist pigs. And don’t even get me started about Mohamed and his sidekick Allah. I still boggle when women freely join such a misogynistic religion.

My rant ends here. But it could flare up again at any time in any place. Beware!

The danger of channel surfing

*** UPDATE ***
Found this little clip from the special on YouTube. It’s one of the more galling segments. I imagine it won’t be long before the entire special is on YouTube.

*** END UPDATE ***

So I get home from running errands this morning, and still have some to do this afternoon, one of which is waiting for Cox to get someone out here only to find that the problem I’d reported isn’t a problem anymore.

Anyhow I’m going through the HBO channels and I come across something on HBO-E (Channel 200 on Cox-RI) that irks me but I have to watch because it’s kind of like a train wreck. The show is one hour long and called Friends of God: A Road Trip. The show is written/produced/directed by Alexandra Pelosi, a San Francisco native and I’d be willing to lay a bet that she’s house Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s daughter. Oh happy day!

What irks me most is the young kids saying they don’t believe in evolution. How the hell could they believe when they’ve only been exposed to the tip of the iceberg. And when the kids are asked who told them that evolution was bunk the answer didn’t surprise me. It was their parents.

Then of course there are the home schoolers who want to inculcate the message of Christianity into their kids before they’re even in pre-school. Those people should have child abuse charges filed against them.

As Richard Dawkins likes to point out, they aren’t Christian children, they’re children. A child has no reference point to evaluate religion so like Dawkins I consider forcing it on them to be wrong.

The other day a co-worker and I got on this very subject. He mentioned that his daughter is nearly two years old and he and his wife have no intention of baptizing her in the Catholic faith or any other until such time as she’s old enough to understand religion. I’m so glad I work with enlightened people.

If you’ve got EOD/VOD on your cable provider, or a DVR I recommend recording this little gem. So be careful while channel surfing, you might find something that raises your blood pressure and foreshadows the Christian Theocracy that’s coming to the United States.
