A strategy to restore sanity – Updated

Some of you probably won’t like what I’m about to say, but think about the consequences.

In an article titled “If Boehner Got Everything He Wanted the Bottom 99% Would Be Out in Food Lines Now”

I have a few comments on this. I’ve seen the little tent cities, and the increase in homeless here in my own city. I’ve watched as governments move to cover it all up lest people get irked by a society that cannot take care of ALL its citizens.

But the Lamestream (An appropriate reference to the mainstream corporate media!) media doesn’t report it, most of us never know about it lest we see it with our own eyes. The reason I call them lame is because the ‘news’ they report is really nothing of the sort.

But it’s true that if we don’t increase revenue this country is headed down an unsure path. I also love how the S&P report calls out the Republican obstinacy in their report on downgrading the U.S. debt rating.

The article does make an interesting observation though. It’s the Tea Baggers that are causing Boehner to tack to the extreme right.

Note my use of the term “Tea Bagger”. I mean it. In fact they meant it too, as evidence:

Tea Bagger and tea bags

I refuse to call them anything but Tea Bagger. And in doing so I’ve been accused of using sexual innuendo when referring to those of that persuasion.

We need to ridicule and denigrate the Tea Baggers. That’s the best way to deal with their bovine effluent. Call them out on their crap on a regular basis. Make it so they cannot hide, they cannot run.

And apparently, their song is playing off tune to most Americans too. Even Tea Party darling Christine O’Donnell only got FIVE people at her book signing. Five!

Tea Party/Tea Baggers are really Republican Fringe

So we all know about the Tea Baggers taking over and modifying the Maine Republican Platform.

But it gets better. Apparently while they were in town some public school classrooms were made available to them.

What 8th grade English teach Paul Clifford found when he returned to his classroom on Monday tells it all when it comes to the Tea Baggers.

E.g.

– For seven years, Clifford has had “a collage-type poster depicting the history of the U.S. labor movement” on his classroom door. He uses it “to teach his students how to incorporate collages into their annual project on Norman Rockwell’s historic ‘Four Freedoms’ illustrations.” When Clifford returned to his classroom on Monday, after the GOP caucuses, the poster was gone; in its place was a sticker reading, “Working People Vote Republican.”

– Republicans opened a “closed cardboard box they found near Clifford’s desk” and later objected to the fact that it contained copies of the U.S. Constitution donated to the school by the American Civil Liberties Union.

– After the caucuses, “rank-and-file Republicans who were upset by what they said they had seen in Clifford’s classroom” began calling the school, objecting to student art they had seen and a sticker on a filing cabinet reading “People for the American Way — Fight the Right.”

So apparently Tea Baggers don’t like labor movements. I suppose the 1,000 plus nurses that marched on Washington recently wouldn’t fit in with their twisted and demented world view.

Better yet, I’m curious what they find more objectionable, that there were copies of the Constitution in the room, or that they were compliments of the American Civil Liberties Union. I’d bet it’s the latter since the ACLU is a target of Tea Baggers and their ilk.

The only semi-legitimate claim to offense that they have is the PFAW Fight the Right sticker and even that is stretching it quite a bit.

It’s funny, I saw the Tea Party/Bagger official head in a clip from The View the other day. As I’ve gotten older I’ve developed the ability to discern when people are lying. That bitch was lying from the start, claiming there wasn’t a racist element to the Tea Baggers. Yeah right, and I’ve got bridge I want to sell you.

You can read more about the immature behavior of the Tea Baggers at the links.

Maine GOP Forced To Apologize After Convention-Goers Vandalize An Eighth-Grade Classroom

A forced apology isn’t sincere at all. You’re bigoted assholes, the lunatic fringe. I guess that’s what happens when you embrace a movement rooted in racism.

Nemitz: Call it class struggle: How politics went too far

(Health Care) The Party of No Ideas

So I was reading the Proj article titled “GOP calls for loud crowd at health-care forum”

They lead in with this gem from Republican Party chair Giovanni Cicione:

State Republican Party Chairman Giovanni Cicione said he hopes angry protesters will flood Wednesday night’s town hall meeting hosted by Rep. James R. Langevin.

He further goes on to say:

“This is the clearest example in decades of the government exceeding its authority. I think this should make people really angry,” Cicione said, noting that he would be out of town, but that conservative groups — such as the Rhode Island Young Republicans and Rhode Island Tea Party movement — are mobilizing their forces to attend.

“This is America, we have First Amendment rights to protest,” Cicione continued. “The citizenry has the right to go out and shout at the top of their lungs.”

Every Republican thus far has railed against any form of nationalized health care. But the common theme is that they haven’t offered anything substantive to address the problem, namely that we’re being slowly bankrupted by the current health care system.

But remember too, even the national Republicans play the same game. When Boehner got up and said the Republicans had a budget proposal and then produced a document so sketchy on details, you knew they were truly turning into an opposition party which has now morphed to the “Party of No”.

Shame on the likes of Cicione, Boehner, and the entire cadre of Republican scum for misleading the people. You’ll never see a Republican tell you that Medicare runs on a 3% overhead whereas private insurance runs at 20% and more. The reason for that high overhead is so they can pay out dividends to investors as well as executive salaries.

You will however hear from Fox News, that Republican party communication instrument, that x number of illegal aliens would be covered by a public plan, or that people in the age group 18 to 25 would just use that instead of getting insurance, etc.

You’ll also hear Fox pundits calling it the Obama Death Care plan, or Obamacare, etc. It’s to the point of ridicule or at least to the point where the pundits and politicians who oppose a true public option should be ridiculed.

There is hope though. I’m noting that corporations in general are getting very nervous about citizen activism. Case in point is the most recent pullout of Tim Horton’s from a NOM event here in RI. I also heard another about Miller donating $30,000 to a group who threatened a boycott of their product.

Here is my message to those who would compare Obama to Hitler or calling Obama a fascist and the like. Stop for a moment and verify the facts if you will. And then I ask, where have you been for the last eight years when George W. Bush, your treasured Republican, was President. We had widespread abuses of our civil rights, we watched as corporations like communications companies, banks, et al became more rapacious and while the Fed kept lowering interest rates, or allowing the credit default swap insurance industry to run unregulated.

Yes people, that was fascism, well more like despotism. Is it any wonder the reaction was to elect a Democrat as President and to hand the Democratic party a supermajority in the senate and a simple majority in the house?

The Republican party is destined for the dustbin of history. Here in RI we can see the rumblings already since the Moderate Party of RI has now been certified for the ballot as an official party. Hell, I’d like to see the Greens and the Socialists get party certification too. The more the merrier, that’s my motto. Because then you’d have to form coalitions in government. More variables means less money to each individual legislator.

Of course I hope the Moderate Party has a slate of candidates. That was where the once Cool Moose Party failed, it only had the one gubernatorial candidate.

And Mr. Cicione, you’d be wise to hear these words.

Now for the Democrats. Stop catering to Republican demands. They lost, and there’s a damn good reason they lost as outlined above. Put your foot down and stand for something instead of being a god damned weasel.

McSame: Losing touch with reality

Check out this video, particularly at 5:55 where McCain is asked at what point do you stop doing what you think is right and do with the American people think is right.

McCain responds with “Well again, I disagree with what the majority of the American people want…”

What McCain fails to realize is that video as usual has a long, long, long memory. Even Hillary Clinton knows about this now. I applaud her for finally suspending her campaign.

This video was produced by Ron Paul campaign supporters but I can honestly say that team Obama should definitely pick it up and run with it.

Four or more years of McCain would be disastrous for the United States. He’s shown time and again how he wants to trample our rights and opinions. Because that is precisely why McCain now has two new nicknames, McSame and McBush. It would be a continuation of bad foreign policy, bad public policy, just bad for all of us.

‘Tis the Season Again

The season when those wingnuts come out with their anti-abortion screed. I guess it’s too cold for these pussies to take to the streets, but then that wasn’t effective anyway. Let’s shame the legislators into making abortion illegal, that’s a much better goal for them.

So I always look at the current photo album on our local rag, The Providence Journal. Today I saw a picture that sums up my feelings on those who are against abortion. They’re so ugly that you wouldn’t want to fuck them anyway. Case in point, this picture:

Abortion Protestors

Notice the fellow holding the Stop Abortion Now sign with that little pout on his face. Would someone please let him know that he looks like Princess Tiny Meat and that his affected pout is so last season.

Then there’s dour Bob to PTM’s right. He doesn’t look all that enthused and I just bet he’s there at the behest of his nagging pseudo-Christian wife. Poor guy probably never gets a moment of peace and he probably looks forward to death since that would put an end to his wife’s nagging bullshit.

To the lower right we have the obligatory breeder with her spawn. Great, another mouth to feed and I notice they didn’t get a shot of daddy in the picture. Why is that?

And to the lower left we have the requisite middle aged women who think their shit doesn’t stink.

I heap my scorn on the guys more than the women because the guys should fucking know better. It is not our right to say who can and cannot have an abortion. And if this country didn’t have such a fucked up attitude about sex maybe there’d be fewer abortions. Who’s to say. But I think the author of Freakonomics made a very good point, the drop in crime rates of the 90’s and on is directly related to the legalization of abortion.

Because time and again, if you force a woman to carry a child to term that doesn’t want the child the state is loathe to step in after the fact. So the child is born into poverty, and poverty breeds crime. It’s that simple.

And here in Rhode Island our governor (Yes, with a little ‘g’ because this asshole doesn’t deserve the honorific capitalization of his title) Don the Asshole CarcieriGovernor Don Carcieri the 1st Asshole of Rhode Island is pushing to move welfare services to faith based initiatives. Ok Don, let me ask you something. Other than spending millions on proselytizing and missionary work exactly what have the churches done to help the poor. Oh some run meal programs, and some act as shelters. But cut welfare down and the churches won’t know what to do with all those people and I’m more than just a bit concerned about using faith based because there’s always that recruitment component.

All in all he’s been a horrible governor. Compared to his predecessor Linc Almond, Carcieri is to the right of Hitler.

So sure Don, cut benefits for the poor and the elderly. Then watch the backlash. It’s good thing you’re only in office for two more years because you’ll obviously go down as Rhode Island’s worst governor.

Say what bitch?

Well, it seems that a British writer got onto a cruise with 500 readers of the National Review. In Ship of Fools, Johann Hari finds out what the neo-cons REALLY think about we liberal folk.

One woman has the stones to say that:

Of course, we need to execute some of these people,” I wake up. Who do we need to execute? She runs her fingers through the sand lazily. “A few of these prominent liberals who are trying to demoralise the country,” she says. “Just take a couple of these anti-war people off to the gas chamber for treason to show, if you try to bring down America at a time of war, that’s what you’ll get.” She squints at the sun and smiles. ” Then things’ll change.”

Cupcake, some of we liberals can’t wait for your old guard to die off and then when you lose your mouthpieces, you’ll realize what a fool you are. Because no doubt, people like that woman are fools. Yet it is due to those fools that we’ve suffered 6+ years of George W. Bush & Co.

I also love the parts where the neo-cons obviously don’t understand the Constitution of the United States. And one particular neo-con is a federal judge and he doesn’t understand the Constitution.

In addition we also have the black man who is against affirmative action while others would like to suicide bomb the U.N. It’s almost surreal.

I’m so happy that the Democrats re-took congress in 2006, but these folks see it as a disaster. Lets see, what has congress done in the past six months or so? They’ve had hundreds of oversight hearings, blocked nomination of ideologue judges to the federal judiciary, and generally acted in the manner that congress should, as a check against the unlimited power of the executive or judicial branches. Seems people have forgotten about checks and balances based upon approval ratings for congress. Most of the reason for the low approval ratings is that people have finally wizened up to the fact that our politicians are well paid for, just not by us.

Post TV Life

Well it’s now been a full two months with no television and I’m loving it. It was a distraction to say the least. An outright waste of money when you factor in cable prices and electricity used.

I did stumble on a new competitor to Apple TV though, it’s called Vudu. In essence is slipstreams movies to you on a regular basis. The networks are toast – what they offer is just so much pablum for the masses. I’d rather be able to just keep things like they are now, one broadband connection, a plethora of information and entertainment. But the new things are very sweet, including Joost. As a matter of fact there are a number of TV sites out there at the moment. And if I could possibly get a joost invite I’d be a very happy guy.

But the Vudu device seems VERY slick. Plug it into the network and start watching. I’m awaiting pricing but they say it’ll be less than $300 for the box which I can deal with, what I’m more interested in is the subscription pricing which hasn’t been announced yet. If it’s cheaper than cable I’ll go for it since even basic cable is no bargain at $47 a month.

But in reality I hear enough music, read enough news, and see enough video on the web to sate me. For example, here’s some news you won’t get through the mainstream media. I was aware of the impeachment protests but this one has pictures and has the added benefit of being at a place where Dubya himself was present. Of course the fucking coward snuck in through another entrance but he’s got to know the tide is turning against him. I just say it’s six years too late. Though A28 did put up a good fight in San Francisco but then would I have expected anything less from those in that city? No I would not. It did surprise me that there was no A28 chapter here in Providence but there is on in Boston.

Put it this way, if we manage to impeach Bush and Cheney just before the elections, it would mean Nancy Pelosi would assume the presidency. Oh I’d enjoy the hell out of that, but the neocons would be apoplectic and rabid in their attacks. Actually it’d be fun watching the Republican party implode.

Republicans and Dirty Tricks

By now we all know that if a Republican candidate can’t capture votes with their ideas, they’ll instead attempt to disenfranchise voters.

It is no secret that Republicans will try anything to get elected. Just look at Steve Lafffey, he bought the RNC package hook, line and sinker. But Lincoln Chaffee was just too well loved. Even he couldn’t get past Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse.

But even when they try, they’re like the gang that can’t shoot straight as has been evidenced by the recent elections.

We’re on to their tricks. They hadn’t counted on the fierce presence of blogs and the web. But even now I’m starting to see lots of conservative blogs, etc. It’ll take a while for the pendulum to swing completely into the Democrats camp, but when it does it will be there for about twenty years. And with any luck this time they’ll have a solid majority so that the Republicans won’t get any press at all.

It isn’t looking good for the Republicans

I’ve read a few things today that lifted my heart. First, of the ten Republicans serving in the RI House, things are starting to get interesting. They’re getting interesting because of leadership struggles and party defections.

Then of course Jeb Bush uttered “No tengo futuro.” Of course Jeb doesn’t have a future, what little chance he might have was driven into the ground by Dubya.

Don’t let the naysayers fool you. Jeb is no prize for Florida, same as Mitt Romney being no prize for Massachusetts. That either would even consider a presidential run is ludicrous to me.

Of course don’t count the Bush family out just yet. There are still up and coming members of that family that in 20 or 30 years might return to haunt us. After all, most Americans have short memories. They forgot that under Bush 41 we were in a political war, Daddy Bush didn’t deliver on his no new taxes mantra, and the economy was basically in the shitter.

Now Bush 43 cuts taxes to starve government, ruins the economy with deficit spending, and somehow manages to spin our shitty economy into a good economy. It’s the ultimate in political chicanery.

And Romney does an artful job of hiding is Mormon background. Yes folks, the Church of Latter Day Saints is a cult, plain and simple. It’s just that you don’t want to call it that in polite company and you certainly don’t want to emphasize that central control is a big deal in LDS circles.

Look at the fact that Romney is an excellent waffler.

All this tells me is that the Republican party will have a spectacular primary. McCain isn’t too far along the sanity chain either. So when you have two crazy people and a nitwit running, things get interesting.
