Fight Back – Gay man beaten by group of youth in Cleveland

Now my comments. It’s high time we break the myth that we’re easy targets. The gay community in Cleveland needs to start harassing and beating straight people. Get the message across that we’re not going to take it anymore.

Interestingly Ohio isn’t a Stand Your Ground state – for if it were I’d urge gay people there to start arming themselves.

And as to the police not investigating – well here’s my prescription for that. Just do what they’d do and investigate it yourself, then package up your investigation and drop it in the lap of the police chief and the District Attorney or Attorney General’s office.

You have video of it – pretty easy to capture stills from video, or even store the video on a cell phone. Get a group of you together and canvass the area. Show the photos of the youths – sure as shit you’ll get identities. The perpetrators must live nearby if they felt so comfortable WAITING for a victim.

Why I believe organized religion is dying out

So I just read this on HuffPo. It posits that the enemies of gay people are the Church, Patriarchy, and Heterosexism.

The piece that really grabbed me is how the Roman Catholic Church has embraced the National Organization for Marriage. It’s a sure sign that they’re sliding down the hill. The church will grasp out at anything to stave off what they surely by now see as their decline.

They could have stopped it. They could have embraced the reforms of Vatican II, could have come clean about the molesting priests. But they decided that the mother church was to be protected and so lost all credibility as a result.

Then of course there is the fact that their congregations are singing a different tune than their hierarchy. A lot of Catholics support equality, support abortion rights, birth control rights, etc. The Church hierarchy – comprised of what is essentially a bunch of old, white men holds a different view.

And it isn’t just the Catholic church, even the Episcopal, and other churches are feeling the loss.

Makes me happy because not having to waste time being a god botherer has it’s issues. And maybe, just maybe those thought cycles wasted on religion might push society ahead!



Religious wing-nuttery over marriage equality

So I was reading this post on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters and this paragraph grabbed my attention:

He went on to maintain that same-sex unions are a “narcissistic parody” of opposite-sex relationships as “homosexual relationships do not represent an authentic intimacy, but rather involve mutual exploitation for the sake of satisfying an unnatural lust” and lead to suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, violence along with other “destructive consequences.” “Homosexuals themselves, who are the greatest victims of the ‘gay lifestyle,’ and are in desperate need of the truth,” he writes.

Let’s break this down, shall we?

“Do not represent authentic intimacy” – the definition:

Of undisputed origin; genuine: “authentic 14th-century furniture”.
Made or done in the traditional or original way: “authentic Italian meals”.

So they’re trying to say because they dispute it our relationships aren’t authentic? Try again! He’s trying to make the wrong-parts argument and failing miserably because we all know better.

But lust in itself is an immoral thing. Or so says the church. The unnatural part comes from nature being a code word for God. The thing is, in the Bible the prohibitions of a man lying with a man aren’t the word of God per se, but part of the Levitical code of conduct. In other words, written by primitive tribal societies who saw non-reproduction as un-natural.

Funny, I can only speak from my perspective here. First of all I’ve never contemplated suicide, only drink moderate amounts of alcohol, never abused drugs, and never suffered any violence. Then of course the writer completely gives a pass with “destructive consequences”. This is code speak for “The wages of sin are death.”

This is not to say that alot of gay and bisexual people and even straight people haven’t succumbed to diseases like HIV/AIDS, Herpes, etc. But that’s just it, Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, of the three names doesn’t understand the nature of disease, it’s not so much due to actions per se, but because of bacteria and viruses. Modern science has figured that part out for at least a century now.

And the only reason I’m the ‘greatest victim’ of my ‘gay lifestyle’ is only because religious bigots like Hoffman keep railing on, all up in the Kool Aid, and don’t know the flavor.

A Homophobe in Virginia Speaks

This appeared in the Richmond Times Dispatch. My dissection below.

God Does Not Delight In Homosexuality

Editor, Times-Dispatch:
I take issue with the celebratory tone of the Metropolitan Community Church’s 30-year anniversary [Op/Ed column, “Congregation Celebrates 30 Years — For the Love of God”]. Establishing a church for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders is to confer a blessing on a church that would celebrate thieves, slanderers, swindlers, and adulterers, for I Corinthians 6:9-10 lists homosexual offenders along with these other undesirables. Indeed, this passage says that those who practice such activities will not inherit the kingdom of God unless there is repentance.

By believing this Scripture, one is not denying the personhood or dignity of those who participate in any of these activities, as Pastor Robin Gorsline accuses in his guest column. Haven’t we all slandered someone, and haven’t we all taken something that did not belong to us? The point is that these actions are not to be lauded; they are to be recognized as wrong and corrections made. The Bible calls this repentance. To celebrate slanderers or swindlers would produce a society of mistrust. To celebrate adultery and homosexuality would undermine the cornerstone of a stable society — the family.

Gorsline writes that “God is delighted that I am gay.” God is no more delighted that one is gay than He is delighted that one cheats on his spouse, or that one makes malicious statements to injure another’s reputation. God has set a standard for how he wants His creation to behave. He knows that we will fail, and that is the reason He sent His son Jesus to intercede for those who acknowledge their sin. Whether one is a slanderer or a homosexual, it is a contrite heart, not a proud heart, that delights God.

Hanger assigns attributes to gay people that just aren’t that way in the verses she quotes.

For your edification here they are:

6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

So in essence Hanger is saying that if we are ‘abusers of ourselves’ than we are ALSO fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effiminate, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers and extortionists.

Nice little piece of word trickery there. I’d also like to point Hanger to that commandment about not bearing false witness against your neighbor. She misses it by a mile by making her pronouncements based on a small selection of text from a text so riddled with contradiction that it makes you head spin if you read the whole book.

We occasionally get wing-nut letters like this in our local rag but they tend to stick with the passages from Leviticus. It’s interesting to see the branching out into first Corinthians now. And if I may do a little prophesying myself, let me make a guess at the life of Elaine Hanger.

I see that she lives alone with her 6 cats, gossips mercilessly about her neighbors, hasn’t had the comfort of a man for almost her whole life, except that quick, fumbling fuck in her senior year of High School.

She thinks her shit doesn’t stink. Goes to church every Sunday but misses the message completely.

And here’s the other thing, how much would you like to bet that she didn’t locate those two passages by herself. No she didn’t, her pastor on the other hand in order to whip up the congregation has to instill the hate against the ‘other’ I’ve spoken about earlier and since he’s a man that knows the book and how to use it to keep himself in comfort and his congregation in fear.

I went through the same shit with my father. He once said to me that the Bible said that white people and black people shouldn’t be together. I of course asked what book he read that in and then the truth came out, his pastor said it. I did some research on the pastor, turns out he’s affiliated with a white supremacist group. So that’s where it came from.

That’s the other thing. People who go to church all the time, do their little apostolic works, etc. are the ones who depend on their religious leader to interpret what they’re reading, if they’re reading at all. Mostly they just listen to the sermons. So it’s very easy for a pastor with an agenda to sneak ideas into the heads of his congregation.

There was a line from The Police song “De Do Do Do De Da Da Da” that went “Poets, priests and politicians have words to thank for their positions.”

No doubt, language is slippery and can be used for nefarious deeds.

A Homophobe Strikes

Recently I posted a short entry about the AFA’s insistence that good Christians keep their kids home from school on the National Day of Silence.

When I think about it, that’s exactly what the Christofascisti would prefer. Kids that are ignorant and obedient. Look at the Phelps clan as a microcosm of this type of society.

Recently it may have come to your attention that I approved a comment by a homophobe. I did this to expose the core of belief of the homophobes.

There should be no surprise it’s religion, after all Steve@centurytel.net did tell me that I was going to hell. What this particular homophobe doesn’t get is that I’m not going to back down. I’m going to call him what he is, a homophobe and religious hypocrite. Why hypocrite? In the first case it is not his to judge. From John 8:7 – Let he who is without sin shall cast the first stone.

I just bet he’s basing his hatred of gay people on Leviticus. But does he take one moment to read the rest of that book? Of course he didn’t because had he done so he would have found that eating shellfish, sleeping with ones wife while she is unclean, etc. are all abominations in the eyes of his alleged god.

It is my opinion that all the Semitic/Monotheistic religions exist to suppress the rights of people, be they women, gay men and women or the like. In order for the monotheistic religions to exist they must focus on the concept of the other. They must also hate this other, or at least try to convert the other.

This other won’t be converted. I started out as Christian, a Catholic no less. Yes, a papist bastard. However at a rather early age I realized it was all bullshit. I do give some props to the authors of the New Testament books though, with the exception of St. Thomas Aquinas, that homophobic asshole. The basic principle is one of love and harmony, about the many before the one. Over the past century or so the Christians have gotten this so wrong that it isn’t funny. They allowed a few pastors with agendas to infiltrate their ranks and this is what we have as a result.

I do realize that CenturyTel is smack dab in the middle of the bible belt, but won’t he be surprised when he dies and realizes that this is the only chance he gets. Except he won’t realize it. As I like to say, you die, you’re dead, that’s it. You get one chance to get it right, to love thy neighbor as thyself.

While you’re at it, keep your religion to yourself. I don’t want to hear it, nor do I see any value in it.

Yes, I’m one of those godless homosexuals who’d like to see religion driven back into the woodwork.
